Art, Resources and Teaching (A.R.T.), based in Bangalore, India, was founded in 2001 to strengthen and foster relationships within and beyond the perimeters of art and architectural history, archaeology, craft, design and related disciplines. A.R.T.’s initiative lies in promoting research, gathering resources, and generating creative explorations and teaching methodologies. Working in both formal and non-formal educational fora, A.R.T. seeks to democratize art history and research, promote greater literacy about the politics of art and facilitate critical inquiries and practices.

A.R.T. gathers academics, historians, artists, craftspersons, and various other individuals and groups who have contributed to, and who continue to work towards the common goal of increasing cultural and historical awareness in the contemporary global context.

A.R.T.'s resources include a comprehensive library devoted to art and architectural history, archaeology, design, craft, anthropology and religion. The library also contains an archive with a collection of over 10,000 articles from Kannada and English dailies, other national magazines and journals on diverse subjects ranging from archaeological politics and copyright law to gender studies and contemporary popular culture. Students, scholars and teachers utilize this space for research and teaching resources. Additionally, A.R.T hosts the research and documentation work of resident scholars and student affiliates from India and elsewhere.

A.R.T. is a self–funded organisation. It seeks to extend its capacities through earned income, small grants and donations from private individuals and public institutions. A.R.T. especially appreciates donations of books related to the history and the practice of the visual and the built arts. A.R.T. is in the process of registering itself as a private charitable trust.
